Salford Zine Library is looking for more zine submissions! We currently have around 1400 self published zines about all kinds of things, but there's always room for more. There is no selection policy so we will accept absolutely anything as long as it's self published. Our collection isn't limited to the UK either - we'll gratefully accept zines from anywhere.
We can't pay you for your zines, sadly, but you can enjoy the thrill of helping the library build its collection. Donating zines to the library is a really good thing to do because:
- It helps to widen access to self published materials. The library is open to the public at Nexus Art Cafe on Dale Street, Manchester between 11am and 7pm Monday-Saturday and 12pm and 6pm on Sundays. Anyone is allowed to go in and browse the collection! There's some comfortable seating or you can take the zines out into the cafe to enjoy while you're having a coffee.
- It's an excellent way of promoting your zine - we blog about every submission and visitors to the library can discover your work.
- Your work could be used for exhibiting in museums, galleries and other zine events. Your zine could even be used as an educational tool, in zine making workshops or in schools and colleges.
If you make zines and want to send a copy, that's great! Just pop it in the post, using the address below, and we'll add it to the collection. We usually try and feature every submission on the blog, including a photo of the front cover. It would be really helpful if you could include a short blurb with your zine so that we don't completely misrepresent your work! You can include this with the zine or email it to us separately. If your zine belongs to a certain genre, let us know as this helps us to organise things a bit better, but it's not a problem if you don't think it fits in any particular category.
If you have a collection of zines that you want to donate to the library, that's great too! If you email us at salfordzinelibrary@gmail.com we can discuss the practicalities of getting your collection to the library.
Please Tweet, email, Facebook and shout about the library. If you know someone who makes zines or is looking for a home for their zine collection, give them a nudge and point them in our direction. Any questions, please feel free to email us.
The address for posting zine submissions is:
